BEFORE YOU ADOPT

Please Note: You must be AT LEAST 25 Years of Age to Adopt from 2BABR!

The rescue will make every reasonable effort to pair you with a dog that is appropriate for your home and reasonably meets your preferences.  However, please take your responsibility to do appropriate research seriously, as you are ultimately responsible for the pet you choose to adopt and bring into your home.  Please allow proper consideration for any constraints that may affect your ability to provide proper care for a new companion as mandated by such factors as housing, exercise, financial responsibilities, etc.  If you are not willing or able to contribute $500-$1200 in training for your new pet (should it be needed), please do not adopt!

It is the expectation of the rescue that any dog experiencing behavioral issues, whether known or unknown at time of adoption, will have received the benefit of professional training prior to the time a request to return the dog to the rescue is received.

We do not allow our dogs to be re-homed following adoption for ANY reason.  If an adopter is unable to meet the terms of the Adoption Agreement, the dog must be returned to the rescue.  Failure to abide by this requirement may result in legal action and significant financial penalties.

We attempt to prevent the adoption of any of our animals without careful consideration of all parties.  If you are looking to "grab and go" without questions or requirements, our process will most likely not align with your needs.  We are seeking permanent homes for each of our animals and our success is dependent on our ability to properly screen our

applicants and be honest when we have concerns.  Until an adoption is finalized, our clients are the animals we serve.  Applicants are not guaranteed approval to adopt through our organization.  We reserve the right to refuse any application.

  • We generally serve the Metropolitan areas of Denver, Colorado Springs and Ft. Collins. Due to our reliance on established veterinary relationships, we do not adopt puppies outside of these general service areas, nor do we facilitate out of state adoptions.

  • 2BABR does not adopt out multiple dogs, littermates, or otherwise, at the same time with the exceptions of bonded pairs who will be advertised as such.

  • Kindly note that the rules of operation under which our rescue is licensed (as determined by the State of Colorado), requires the consideration of both City and County restrictions as it relates to the number of allowable pets in each home (as applicable).  In an instance whereby the regulations between the City and County are not congruent, we are required to abide by the most conservative ordinance(s).

  • We abide by BSL (Breed Specific Legislation); if you live in a BSL area (rent or own), we will NOT approve the adoption of a dog that presents predominant bully characteristics. Regardless of breed designations as they appear on the initial paperwork of each of our animals (and/or correspond to the listings on our website/Facebook page) BSL is individually assessed on each animal on a conservative basis via visual inspection (only). The rescue reserves the right to refuse any adoption to protect an animal or potential adopter when in an instance when BSL might be questionable.

  • Power Breed dogs are generally NOT eligible for adoption to renters (regardless of restrictions); Akitas, American Bulldogs, American Staffordshire Terriers, Chow Chow's, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Huskies, Mastiffs, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Shar Pei's, Wolf Hybrids, etc.

  • DNA tests are not permitted for adoption purposes.

RENTAL REQUIREMENTS

We welcome applications from potential adoption candidates that rent a primary residence and have enjoyed many successful adoptions to an abundance of applicants whom do not own his/her own home.  However, we also place great importance on the permanent nature of our placements and thus, in addition to specific rental restrictions which are requested upon receipt of any prospective Adoption Application, the following guidelines for rental applicants must be adhered to:

1) Applicants over 25 years of age must independently verify current rental payments (current residence) to qualify for adoption.  Adopter must prove one (1) year of positive rental history in his/her current residence without dependence on the income of another applicant/roommate to qualify for adoption.

2)  Any applicant that resides with parents or relatives that own the residence in which he/she is living must qualify as a renter (not as an owner) and therefore, must meet all rental requirements.

3) To conform with the majority of rental restrictions we routinely verify and to aid rental candidates in qualifying for future residency, 2BABR will not grant approval for the domicile of more than two (2) Pets per rental residence.

4) Weight Limit (full grown) cannot exceed thirty (30) lbs. for any adoption candidate. Because the weight of any mixed breed puppy cannot be accurately predicted, 2BABR will have sole discretion (and err on the side of caution) when approving puppies for rental candidates.

5) We ask that all rental applicants consider the needs of any adoption candidate as it pertains to his/her living situation. Attributes such as energy level/exercise needs, vocal demonstrations, etc. will be considered, and maybe disqualified, on a case-by-case basis regardless of age, breed or size.

6) Prior to finalizing any adoption, all rental applicants must provide an approval letter (in addition to any rental restrictions/requirements from the landlord/management company) acknowledging the identification of the specific 2BABR Pet that is being adopted and proof that all pet deposits have been paid.

The rescue is also hyper-aware of a renter's ability to secure future residency with a dog that appears on the exclusionary list of most management companies poses a great risk for animal and adopter alike.  Therefore, PLEASE NOTE:  DOGS THAT ARE COMMONLY RECOGNIZED AS POWER BREEDS (as determined by the physical characteristics of the animal and assessed by rescue personnel on a conservative basis) ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR DOMICILE UNLESS YOU OWN YOUR HOME, REGARDLESS OF ANY RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE REQUESTED AND/OR PROVIDED.  Power Breeds include, but are not limited to:  Akita’s, American Bulldogs, Chow Chows, American Staffordshire Terriers, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Huskies, Mastiffs, Pit Bulls, Shar Peis, Wolf Hybrids, etc.

FENCING REQUIREMENTS

Please be advised that 6-foot privacy fencing is preferred for adoption, and, will be required for any dog or puppy that presents with predominant, power-breed characteristics.

View fencing with sufficient wire/mesh inserts of a minimum height of 5 feet is required for the adoption of all other dogs and puppies.

Properties that have limited fencing options due to terrain and/or HOA requirements/restrictions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, with an acceptable containment plan (to be reviewed and approved by the rescue).

Due to safety concerns, the rescue is not comfortable in considering containment presented by chain-link fencing (easy access by an outside party or the ability of a dog to jump/climb/scale).
